A Little History

NNMRC was originally Stalham Model Racing Club, a small friendly club started in 1996. A group of friends decided to play at racing drivers using Tamiya TA01/02 cars in a school playground in the middle of the summer. All went well, with interest slowly increasing until winter came and an indoor home was required. The club moved to Catfield Village Hall, which was hopelessly small and had no grip from the dusty wooden floor. Even so, the club continued to gain interest and increase in numbers. After outgrowing this venue, a new home was found in Catfield in a Martial Arts Gym. This had a superb carpet floor, reasonable space and an understanding landlord. This was the clubs home for two years until the landlord gave up the lease and the building changed use. SMRC was homeless and desperate. The club spent four months trying to find the perfect venue in the area, many halls were viewed, tried, and tested. None coming up to scratch. Members were drifting away and something had to be done quickly. Then we found Cromer Sports Centre, twenty miles from the original club base, but ideal in every other way. The club struggled to maintain its members, many feeling the travelling was too much and the racing carpet which was fifteen years old, not good enough. A crisis meeting was held in February 2000 to discuss the offer of financial support from a mystery backer. Four committee members agreed to guarantee a loan from the mysterious person, a brand new racing carpet which covered the entire floor of the sports centre was purchased, along with bbk timing software required to run the meetings. Now renamed North Norfolk Model Racing Club, the club has grown again, enjoying many, friendly, relaxed race meetings along the way. NNMRC is not like any other club. We are laid back. We enjoy racing and not just winning. We make time for new members. We lend spare parts. We are not slaves to clocks. We want racing to be affordable. We keep costs down. We help people. We don't charge for your first nights racing. We have holidaymakers come and race with us for free for fun. WE ENJOY OURSELVES!
